Data Center Security

Data is becoming more and more business-critical and must be protected in a safe, reliable and modern way. At Conapto, we work with shell protection and intrusion protection according to the “deep defence principle”, meaning that you work with the shell protection in several layers that prevents the threat from penetration.

Each layer is in itself both discovering and aggravating. This creates time for security guards or police to neutralize the threat on site. The deep defence principle is used, among other things, to protect nuclear power plants and is recommended by the Swedish Security Service to protect extraordinary sensitive objects.

FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES
DETECTING MEASURES

Detecting measures are about human and technical monitoring of the facility. We have chosen to work with a combination of physical and technical monitoring simply because it’s the safest combination. Patrolling guards visit the facilities at certain irregular intervals but the emphasis lies on technical monitoring with the use of modern technology. In that way, the risk of an unnecessary exposure of a, in many cases, lonely guard on site is minimized. Also, our modern monitoring systems have built-in alarms and are always active, 24/7/365.

AGGRAVATING MEASURES

Aggravation refers to the way fences and buildings are designed to prevent an intrusion. Here are a few different options that you, as a customer, can choose from.

Stockholm 1 City is located in an office area and equipped with camera surveillance, motion detectors and alarms. Access to the data center is based on an access list, personal tag, personal code, biometrics and a man-trap guarded by security personnel.

Stockholm 2 South has 4-meter high fences with camera surveillance and motion detectors. Here, the entire building is classified in protection class 3, which means that regardless of which computer room you stand in, you comply with regulatory compliance according to protection class 3. It is also possible to install ordinary cages or cages in protection class 3 (so-called Ferrapods).

Stockholm 3 North has 4-meter high fences with camera surveillance and motion detectors. Inside the facility, there are entire computer rooms in either protection class 2 or protection class 3, which means that you as a customer can choose what suits your requirements and needs. It is also possible to install ordinary cages or cages in protection class 3 (so-called Ferrapods). Access to the data center is based on an access list, personal tag, personal code, biometrics and a man-trap guarded by security personnel.

Stockholm 4 South has on-site guard 24/7/365 and 4-meter high fences with camera surveillance and motion detectors. Inside the facility, there are entire computer rooms in protection class 3. It is also possible to install ordinary cages or cages in protection class 3 (so-called Ferrapods). Access to the data center is based on an access list, personal tag, personal code, biometrics and a man-traps.

HANDLING MEASURES

The handling measures are based on the fact that the deep defense principle is adapted. Meaning, that it’s completely impossible for an intruder to get all the way into the area where the equipment is placed before any handling measures, police or security guards, have acted on the threat.

HOW THE DEEP DEFENCE
PRINCIPLE IS APPLIED

1.
4 m high fences around the entire building with camera surveillance and motion detectors for monitoring and detecting measures. An alarm triggers as soon as someone unauthorised is trying to break in and handling actions in the form of guards or police are then on their way.

2.
The building itself is an aggravating measure and is also equipped with camera surveillance and alarms. See specific information per site in the info above.

3.
The design of the computer rooms is an aggravating measure and inside the facilities there are camera surveillance and motion detectors for triggering alarms. See specific information per site in the info above. The deep defence principle is based on that the threat should never get further than here before handling measures are in place.

4.
As a last security measure, the customer can also choose to cage their equipment inside the computer room and even this part can then be equipped with alarms and camera surveillance. The available options are a regular cage or a cage itself certified according to Protection Class 3/EN-1627 Resistance Class 4..

SUMMARY

With a well-developed and modern data center security strategy according to the deep defense principle, we can handle all types of intrusion attempts in three steps; detecting – aggravating – handling. The facilities comply with the directives according to Swedish Protection Class 3 (SSF 200) and European standard EN-1627 Resistance Class 4. This gives our customers the safety and security they need for a modern colocation solution.
